Verified High-order Integration of Daes and Higher-order Odes

چکیده
Within the framework of Taylor models, no fundamental difference exists between the antiderivation and the more standard elementary operations. Indeed, a Taylor model for the antiderivative of another Taylor model is straightforward to compute and trivially satisfies inclusion monotonicity. This observation leads to the possibility of treating implicit ODEs and, more importantly, DAEs within a fully Differential Algebraic context, i.e. as implicit equations made of conventional functions as well as the antiderivation. To this end, the highest derivative of the solution function occurring in either the ODE or the constraint conditions of the DAE is represented by a Taylor model. All occurring lower derivatives are represented as antiderivatives of this Taylor model. By rewriting this derivative-free system in a fixed point form, the solution can be obtained from a contracting Differential Algebraic operator in a finite number of steps. Using Schauder’s Theorem, an additional verification step guarantees containment of the exact solution in the computed Taylor model. As a by-product, we obtain direct methods for the integration of higher order ODEs. The performance of the method is illustrated through examples.

Performance of the Taylor series method for ODEs/DAEs
This paper revisits the use of the Taylor series method for the numerical integration of ODEs and DAEs. The numerical method is implemented using an efficient variablestep variable-order scheme. Several numerical tests comparing with well-established numerical codes are presented. ! 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
متن کاملComputing Validated Solutions of Implicit Differential Equations
Ordinary differential equations (ODEs), including high-order implicit equations, describe important problems in mechanical and chemical engineering. However, the use of selfvalidated methods providing rigorous enclosures of the solution has mostly been limited to explicit and weakly nonlinear problems, and no general-purpose algorithm for the validated integration of general ODE initial value p...
متن کاملUsing additivity in numerical integration of DAEs
We report on extensions of Gauss methods and the Hilber-Hughes-Taylor (HHT) method for differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) arising in mechanics. Gauss methods have not been considered as having much practical interest for the numerical solution of DAEs. This has been mainly due to poor convergence properties of these methods when applied in a standard direct way. Stiffly accurate methods ha...
متن کاملBeyond conventional Runge-Kutta methods in numerical integration of ODEs and DAEs by use of structures and local models ?
There are two parts in this paper. In the first part we consider an overdetermined system of differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). We are particularly concerned with Hamiltonian and Lagrangian systems with holonomic constraints. The main motivation is in finding methods based on Gauss coefficients, preserving not only the constraints, symmetry, symplecticness, and variational nature of traje...
متن کاملValidated Simulation of Differential Algebraic Equations with Runge-Kutta Methods∗†
Differential Algebraic Equations (DAEs) are a general and implicit form of differential equations. DAEs are often used to represent physical systems such as dynamics of solids or chemical interactions. These equations are different from Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) in the sense that some of the dependent variables occur without their derivatives. Validated simulation of ODEs has recen...
